Childhood is often thought about as time that is both carefree and filled with possibilities. However, when a child is given the diagnosis of cancer. They often are left feeling alone, scared and confused, with all hope of the future having been taken away from them.
The assistance which both the child and their family need, is on emotional, medical and practical fronts. However many children and their families feel at loss where to and how to access these services.
However, CHOC (Childhood Cancer Foundation) can play a major role in both supporting the child and their family. This both emotional and practically, in terms of finding them the treatment which is desperately required and getting them to access this treatment. As a result of this giving hope of possibility of what the future could hold for them.
CHOC is a registered non-profit organisation who attempt to empower, advocate for and support children and teenagers diagnosed with cancer or other life-threatening blood disorders. The support programs on offer attempt to offer holistic support to the child and their families, from diagnosis. Services offered are with regards to emotional support throughout their journey, offering psychosocial support during the course of treatment, or in some sad cases offering palliative, end of life care and bereavement support. They also offer practical support in terms of accommodation, transport to and from treatment, as well as education regarding early detection. Currently they are responsible for the care of 1500 children and their families.
In order for CHOC to continue the work that they do and to give hope and possibilities back to children, in the face of extreme adversity, they need your assistance with funding. All they are asking for currently is the purchase of a sticker for 10 rand, to be worn on the 18th of February. So as to raise both funds and awareness for this cause.
